Artist Statement
My experiences working with children and children’s literature inspire my paintings. The playful approaches my students take to their exploration of art and creativity fuel my own progress.
Imagination is a central theme in my work. I aim to express the wonders of childhood imagination that define us as creative individuals. To imitate vibrant qualities of childhood I often photograph my subjects in neon colored lighting before transferring them onto canvas. The dramatic colors and hyper saturated lighting invite the viewers into dream-like visual narratives, where painted figures often interact with imaginative elements that blur the line between reality and fantasy.
